Movie Review - The Batman

08.14

Bruce Wayne and his alter ego, Batman return for the film adaptation. After going through various adaptations with various qualities such as The Dark Knight with Oscar caliber quality and the last one with polarized Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, The Batman comes as the most accurate adaptation, namely the perfect portrayal of Batman as the greatest detective in the superhero world. Matt Reeves, who was finally trusted by warner bros to bring the story of this powerless hero back to the cinema screen and spectacularly made superhero fans believe that superhero movies don't have to be full of action and simple stories.

Watching Batman movies is often accompanied by dark stories about Bruce Wayne's past, who was an orphan with his father and mother killed. That is also the premise in the story of Batman this time. Batman, which is now played by Robert Pattinson, is again filled with gloomy feeling, but The Batman directed by Matt Reeves still offers more than that.

This time Batman fights famous comicbook mafia, namely Carmine Falcone being one of the main antagonist. There is also Oswald Cobblepot, the Penguin who is still a subordinate of Falcone. But the main enemy of Batman here is Edward Nygma or in this story Edward Nashton, aka The Riddler, who likes to play puzzles. This character is now played by Paul Dano. Batman did not fight alone. Again with the loyal servant Alfred Pennyworth, played by Andy Serkis, and the beautiful cat Selina Kyle, aka catwoman, played by Zoe Kravitz, also Jim Gordon played by Jeffrey Wright.

No more super-sophisticated tools, be it for investigation, combat or operational vehicles. Now Batman is doing his job with more grounded tools, only a contact lens capable of transmitting images to a monitor and recording video, which is his most advanced tool. Batman's brain, camouflage ability and fighting skills are the most advanced tools that he have.

Reeves is so careful to connect every piece of Bruce Wayne's story to show his capacity as the World's Greatest Detective, as the nickname that has been pinned for him. On the other hand, the Riddler character also plays an important role in Bruce Wayne's narrative. The Riddler's distinctive ability in puzzles successfully ignites the investigative abilities of Gotham's heroes, although Wayne is often confused in dealing with it all. Riddler's presence is even more meaningful because he not only appears as a villain who wreaks havoc, but also leads Batman to reveal the big secrets of Gotham and his family's past.

Through The Batman, Matt Reeves succeeded in creating superhero genre films with new flavors and sensations, starting from evolution of the fresh Batman character, creative shots that we have never seen before, to the selection of story plots that open up many opportunities for new stories. The Batman is comicbook movie at its finest. Matt Reeves alongside with Pattinson, Kravitz, Paul Dano make this movie comes to life.

Movie Review - Avengers: Endgame

07.02

After the high stake delivered to our favorite heroes by thanos in 2018 "Avengers: Infinity War", Russo bros once again take over the directing chair for the last time on final chapter of what we called The Infinity Saga.

Endgame start what's left off on previous movie where thanos plan succeed, he wipe out half of the entire population including half of avengers and Guardian of the Galaxy. The remaining heroes tried to gather strength to find way to defeat thanos and undo his action.

If there is one thing that Marvel has done with Endgame is to make it appear as a fun and exciting superhero film, on the other hand, it still doesn't forget the substance of the story and the character he is carrying out. There are a number of things we like, such as giving our own story time to imagine, take pictures, and present what consequences can arise when the earth loses half of its living creatures. It also shows how every superhero who survives to move their lives optimally in the midst of a sad world condition. Every  superhero shows a different way to grieve.

Many portion of Endgame has to offer may seem boring to those who can't wait to jump into the action to stop Thanos. But for me personally, there is a sense of satisfaction in seeing how the Russo Bros provide a place to show the consequences that arise from Infinity War itself. He succeeded in making each of these superheroes become more human and on the other hand, arousing empathy. You become more sensitive and care about the character you have actually been following for at least the past 11 years. But, the downside, he does not portray much of the consequences of what happened to humans as civilization. You only see the effects of these characters by heroes point of view.

In the end, Endgame is positioned as the conclusion of the saga that you have enjoyed for 11 years. The struggle of the superheroes finally landed at a point where the good finally beat evil. One thing that Russo Bros has succeeded in is making sure it appears as a climax that is appropriate to close the story. Super cool on a massive scale where each character comes with their best abilities, it also comes with destructive effects that spoil the eyes. Of course, not to forget he also offers a heroic moment that makes you want to shout in favor of the action of a fictional character in front of this big screen. Kudo's to Marvel Cinematic Universe for peak of nerdgasm in our lifetime

Movie Review - Avengers: Infinity War

07.17

Celebrating 10 years of Marvel Studios, the film is recognized to be the culmination of Marvel Cinematic Universe so far. The Avengers and Guardians Of The Galaxy must work together to stop the destruction of the universe by the mad titan A.K.A Thanos.
This film bring back the Biggest Hollywood stars like Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Benedict Cumberbatch, Chris Evas, Chris Pratt, Scarlett Johansson, Elizabeth Olsen and many more.
Avengers: Infinity War directed by "the dynamic duo" Anthony and Joe Russo, who return to marvel studio after an unexpected Winter Soldier and a Massive Civil War on Captain America Trilogy.
This time the heroes and all parts of the universe unite to stop Thanos (Josh Brolin), a creature from Titan who wants to destroy half the population of the universe. Thanos felt by committing genocide against half his population, the universe would be balanced and spared from extinction.
Thanos needs six infinity stones containing various elements and scattered throughout the universe to achieve his dream. At the beginning of the film, Thanos already has two elemental stones, and with the help of his loyal followers, Thanos tries to gather the rest.

Every earth mightiest heroes from The Avengers, Doctor Stephen Strange, Guardian of Galaxy keeper of outer space, up to the Black Panther and his troops on Wakanda, all trying to prevent Thanos getting all the stones. The superheroes finally meet and work together to stop Thanos plans. In fact, they have to go to the space far from where they live.
To defeat the strongest enemies in the universe, much to be sacrificed. Although it has tried in such a way, in fact there must be a lost life to complete the greatest battle in this universe.
Infinity War offering the best story than its prequel, The Avengers and The Avengers: Age Of Ultron. High credit for duet writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely who geniuses behind this intense stories, flows well and produces spectacular shades. Not to mention the twist plot that appears several times and makes us quite difficult to guess the story line of this movie. Their brilliance is also evidenced by the challenge of the many characters in this film that they are balanced, not to mention the character of Thanos as a villain who now we called it as the most bad-ass villain of Marvel Studios.

Not about how evil Thanos, but his background, his motive, the obsessions and the dilemmas that make us admire the figure of Thanos at the same time asking about our own morals for admiring a villain. There is a slight tendency if this film is also more showing the superiority of Thanos than the Avengers, but that might be a plus point considering we are a bit bored with the heroes who are too easy to defeat their enemies, especially on Marvel movies.
Clever and self-aware, humour plays a big part in this sequel. The jokes are perfectly timed and great character combinations (Tony Stark and Doctor Strange; Thor and Rocket) balance the tone nicely. Caution: this is the darkest episode in the saga so far. But there are lighter moments and things never get too dreadful. This is a fun movie as well as thrilling.

Infinity War isn’t a perfect movie, a lot happens very quickly and some of the supposed main characters feel like cameos. Infinity War is under pressure to be the most exhilarating experience yet, but it sometimes sacrifices story for spectacle. Even Thanos (Josh Brolin) could do with a few more lines. For the most part though, this bonkers blockbuster is an entertaining and surprisingly emotional flick that will keep everybody happy.
There are also some concern though as the CGI movement is less smooth in some early scenes, the storyline is bit have a 'pacing problem', also the origins of the Black Order characters isn’t fully explored (understandable cause Russo Brothers must be required to save long duration).
Ambitious, very grand, intense yet bombastic and with a combination of almost perfect action sequences from every superheros. 9 of 10 is the most objective score we can give for this movie. With a variety of positive aspects and fantastic moment. Avengers: Infinity War is not only very entertaining and shocking but has a big surprise that breaks many fan theories.

Movie Review - Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

01.57

The 15th film of Marvel Cinematic Universe, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 just released in bluray & DVD. Again, James Gunn is entrusted to direct this film. This movie, still starring the same cast, call it Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, and Vin Diesel. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, tells of adventure the "Star Lord and the gang" in guarding the galaxy and then accidentally meets Star-Lord's father, Ego(Kurt Russell).

Three years ago, the Guardians of the Galaxy became a surprise hit with revenues of more than three quarters of a billion dollars from around the world. While superhero movies are usually built on self-serious topics such as personal conflicts or villains that threaten the world, the Guardians of the Galaxy brings them more cheerfully. Departing from an unknown superhero, now maybe some of the viewers instead idolize a cute tree monster or a raccoon that can talks. With such high expectations, the only way is go bigger, perhaps. We can feel that the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 seems to feel obliged to be more funny, more exciting, and more spectacular, which really does not matter if the movie does not try too hard

doesn't mean to say that this movie is no longer funny, exciting, and spectacular. The hilarious dynamics of the characters, the imaginative universe and the dazzling visual effects still exist, but now it feels a bit forced. Perhaps realizing that his movie were no longer fresh and had lost the shock effect, Gunn doubled them all up. I think there is a certain dose for jokes, plots and characters that can be loaded in a movie.

But is it bad movie? No, the script written and worked on by James Gunn, is still good enough. The storyline is not easy to guess, the plot is not too rushed, intense actions while punctuated by the humor of the characters, some easter-eggs successfully delivered quite well by Gunn. Characterization in this movie is quite good and strong enough. Each character gets a portion of a fitting appearance in this movie. And the new characters are well introduced to have their own ties with Audience

The Action sequences involves a marvelous special effects. Not much director can be like Gunn in making explosions and
overload special effects that still feels entertaining despite its hectic composition. The planets, new places, and some characters are very well illustrated through the CGI and visual effects. Coupled with a beautiful cinematography from Henry Braham, successfully convey the visual message contained in this movie. The climactic scene contains many explosions. Gunn is also able to lift the classic superhero movie moments, including some of cinema clichés like the romance between the protagonist and "hero shot in the slow-motion", not look so cheesy.

Just Like the predecessor, the good value of this movie also come from the soundtrack of this movie, Awesome Mix Vol. 2. The classic songs from around 1980's were composed by Tyler Bates, the Music Composer of this film. A good selection of songs in each scene successfully bring a very fun tone for this movie. Even the opening scene of this movie is much better and fun than the first Guardian Of The Galaxy.

Although the second film of the guardian of the galaxy is no more fresh than before, guardian of the galaxy vol. 2 has a powerful ending that can even be regarded as the saddest Marvel Cinematic Universe movie ever watched that makes this movie quite complex, with the theme of romance, friendship, and kinship that was delivered well by Gunn.

Movie Review - Annabelle: Creation

07.16

Three years after the first movie, Annabelle doll spread the terror once more through the second movie titled Annabelle: Creation. Annabelle: Creation is a prequel of the first movie released back in 2014. Annabelle: Creation will reveal the origin of the most iconic horror doll, Annabelle

The story of Annabelle: Creation begins with a tragic accident of Bee (Samara Lee), the only daughter of a couple who works as a doll maker named Samuel Mullins (Anthony LaPaglia) and Esther Mullins (Miranda Otto). 12 years after the death of Bee, Samuel and Esther invited a young nun named Charlotte (Stephanie Sigman) and 6 orphan girls lived in her home Two of them were Linda (Lulu Wilson) and Janice (Talitha Bateman), a little girl whose legs were disabled by suffering polio.

One night, Janice found a cabinet that turned out to contain an Annabelle doll. Since then, the odd incident have become more frequent. The doll's terror made the inhabitants of the house frightened. Annabelle's dolls began to haunt the inhabitants of the house one by one, the spirit inside Annabelle dolls also threaten their lives.

Annabelle is now back with different formula after got a mixed review in the first movie. Now Annabelle is directed by David F Sanberg, director who has succesfully direct Lights Out, horror movie that had succes last year. Whether it will be the same with Annabelle: Creation??

In the of hands of David F Sandberg, Annabelle seemed to rise with new hope. Annabelle: Creation looks much more convincing than the predecessor's. David managed to build an intense tension of the audience with great combination of cinematography and accompaniment music. Annabelle: Creation doesn't allow you to rest cause of the jumpscares appear tightly, even when were not ready.

Although this movie doesn't bring the ranks of Hollywood actor and popular actress doesn't mean it can be underestimated. Powerfull and stunning performance is here through the acting of Talitha Bateman and Lulu Wilson as Janice and Linda. Both are capable of acting naturally.

In addition to the historical flashbacks of Annabelle doll, the film also features an important clues that connects other movie in "Conjuring Universe". It Features many easter egg of the upcoming movie such us The Nun(2018) & the third film of conjuring.

Annabelle: Creation offers a new hope for the next movie of The Conjuring Universe, even with "cliche" plot with gimmick, when it produced by James Wan, its perfect for horror movie lovers.
