Movie Review - Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

The 15th film of Marvel Cinematic Universe, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 just released in bluray & DVD. Again, James Gunn is entrusted to direct this film. This movie, still starring the same cast, call it Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, and Vin Diesel. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, tells of adventure the "Star Lord and the gang" in guarding the galaxy and then accidentally meets Star-Lord's father, Ego(Kurt Russell).

Three years ago, the Guardians of the Galaxy became a surprise hit with revenues of more than three quarters of a billion dollars from around the world. While superhero movies are usually built on self-serious topics such as personal conflicts or villains that threaten the world, the Guardians of the Galaxy brings them more cheerfully. Departing from an unknown superhero, now maybe some of the viewers instead idolize a cute tree monster or a raccoon that can talks. With such high expectations, the only way is go bigger, perhaps. We can feel that the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 seems to feel obliged to be more funny, more exciting, and more spectacular, which really does not matter if the movie does not try too hard

doesn't mean to say that this movie is no longer funny, exciting, and spectacular. The hilarious dynamics of the characters, the imaginative universe and the dazzling visual effects still exist, but now it feels a bit forced. Perhaps realizing that his movie were no longer fresh and had lost the shock effect, Gunn doubled them all up. I think there is a certain dose for jokes, plots and characters that can be loaded in a movie.

But is it bad movie? No, the script written and worked on by James Gunn, is still good enough. The storyline is not easy to guess, the plot is not too rushed, intense actions while punctuated by the humor of the characters, some easter-eggs successfully delivered quite well by Gunn. Characterization in this movie is quite good and strong enough. Each character gets a portion of a fitting appearance in this movie. And the new characters are well introduced to have their own ties with Audience

The Action sequences involves a marvelous special effects. Not much director can be like Gunn in making explosions and
overload special effects that still feels entertaining despite its hectic composition. The planets, new places, and some characters are very well illustrated through the CGI and visual effects. Coupled with a beautiful cinematography from Henry Braham, successfully convey the visual message contained in this movie. The climactic scene contains many explosions. Gunn is also able to lift the classic superhero movie moments, including some of cinema clichés like the romance between the protagonist and "hero shot in the slow-motion", not look so cheesy.

Just Like the predecessor, the good value of this movie also come from the soundtrack of this movie, Awesome Mix Vol. 2. The classic songs from around 1980's were composed by Tyler Bates, the Music Composer of this film. A good selection of songs in each scene successfully bring a very fun tone for this movie. Even the opening scene of this movie is much better and fun than the first Guardian Of The Galaxy.

Although the second film of the guardian of the galaxy is no more fresh than before, guardian of the galaxy vol. 2 has a powerful ending that can even be regarded as the saddest Marvel Cinematic Universe movie ever watched that makes this movie quite complex, with the theme of romance, friendship, and kinship that was delivered well by Gunn.
